Privacy policy
Last updated: November 2, 2026
This policy explains what data Echoes of the Past (ecosdopassado.com.br) collects when you visit the site or write to us, what it is used for, and what you can do about it. It covers all three versions of the site: English, Portuguese (Ecos do Passado), and Spanish (Ecos del Pasado).
You don't need to sign up or share any personal information to read Echoes of the Past.
Who is responsible
Echoes of the Past is responsible for the data processed on this site. For any question about privacy and personal data, including the requests described below, email [email protected].
What we collect
When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, and message (plus the subject line, if you fill it in). Along with your message, the system stores a code generated from the IP address it was sent from (the address itself is not stored with the message). This is used only to stop automated submissions and abuse.
When you browse the site, cookies and similar technologies record browsing data: the pages you visit, how long you stay on them, your device and browser type, your approximate location, and the site that referred you. This data is collected by Google Analytics and by Google's advertising services, described below.
The server that hosts the site also logs technical data for each visit, such as the IP address, the date and time, and the page requested. These logs keep the site running and help protect it from attacks.
How we use it
- to reply to your message;
- to understand which articles are read and how the site is used, so we can improve it;
- to show ads, which help keep the site going;
- to protect the site against spam, abuse, and attacks;
- to meet legal obligations, when they apply.
We do not sell your personal data.
The legal bases for this are your own request (when you write to us), the site's legitimate interest (statistics and security), your consent (cookies for personalized advertising, which you can refuse as explained below), and compliance with legal obligations.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that a site, and the services connected to it, store in your browser. Echoes of the Past uses three kinds:
- Necessary: a cookie that remembers you've already seen the cookie notice, so it doesn't appear on every page. It lasts one year.
- Analytics: Google Analytics cookies, which count visits and show how the site is used.
- Advertising: cookies from Google and its partners, which serve ads and measure how they perform.
On your first visit, a notice tells you that the site uses cookies. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. The site will keep working, but the ads may be less relevant to your interests. The site does not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals; to limit tracking, use the options on this page.
Ads and Google cookies
Echoes of the Past shows ads through Google AdSense. Here is how they work:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- To opt out of other vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising, visit www.aboutads.info.
Even with personalized advertising turned off, you will still see ads; they just won't be tailored to your interests. To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see this Google page.
Visitor statistics: Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit the site, which articles they read, and what kind of device they use. We look at these numbers in aggregate, to understand what works and improve the site, and we don't use them to identify you. To keep Google Analytics from counting your visits on any site, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Who we share data with
- Google, for analytics (Google Analytics) and advertising (Google AdSense), under Google's Privacy Policy;
- the services that keep the site running, such as hosting and email delivery, only as far as they need it to work;
- authorities, when required by law or by a court order.
Google may process data on servers outside Brazil, including in the United States, under the rules and safeguards described in its policies.
How long we keep data
- Contact form messages: as long as needed to reply and follow up. After that, they are deleted. If you'd like yours deleted sooner, just ask.
- Technical access logs: as long as needed for the site's security and for any period required by law.
- Cookies: the cookie-notice cookie lasts one year; Google's cookies follow the periods set by Google. You can delete all of them whenever you like in your browser.
Your rights under Brazil's LGPD
Under Brazil's General Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law No. 13,709/2018), you may request at any time:
- confirmation that we process your data, and access to it;
- correction of incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated data;
- anonymization, blocking, or deletion of data that is unnecessary, excessive, or processed in breach of the law;
- portability of your data;
- deletion of data processed on the basis of your consent;
- information about whom we share your data with;
- information about your option not to give consent and what happens if you don't;
- withdrawal of your consent;
- objection to processing carried out in breach of the law.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm that the request is really yours, to protect your data, and we will respond within the time limits set by law. You can also file a complaint with Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD).
If you are in the European Union
If you access the site from the European Union, you also have rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it. The legal bases are the same as described above. Send requests to the same email address. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.
Security
We take technical and organizational measures to protect data: access to the site's admin panel is restricted to the people who run it, the IP address of anyone using the contact form is not stored with the message, and the form is protected against automated submissions. No system is completely secure; if an incident could put you at risk, we will notify you and the ANPD, as the law requires.
Children
Echoes of the Past is made for a general audience and does not knowingly collect data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent us data through the contact form, write to us and we will delete it.

Our articles cite sources and may link to other sites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we don't control.

This policy may change, for example if the site starts using a new service. The date at the top shows the version in effect.
